class 10

In the present era, there are numerous career options available like medical services, engineering, civil services, accountant services etc. The building blocks for the same flourishes at school itself where primary classes play an important role for building up the foundation of the students and on the other hand the senior classes like 11th and 12th are responsible for developing the concepts amidst them. Almost every student, after appearing for his/her class 10th board exams, faces the dilemma of choosing the right stream for an efficient and effective career ahead in the future.

It’s not about choosing the right path; it’s about making your own path.

Available streams after class 10th

Usually 3 streams are available for the students which are: –

  • Science: – The stream which is mostly preferred by the students and holds a myth that only scholars pursue this stream. Basically, it has got 2 subdivisions which are: –
  1. PCM (Physics, Chemistry and mathematics): – This is opted by the students which are interested in technology-oriented careers. For example: Engineering (B. Tech), Commercial pilot, Railways, Merchant Navy etc.
  2. PCB (Physics, Chemistry and biology): – This stream is for such students who are more into medical field services. For example: Doctors(MBBS), Biotechnology (Integrated B. Tech M. Tech), Environmental studies etc.

Students can also go for a Research field after pursuing Science Stream which is an outstanding career option as it allows a student to learn new things and to apply new things. Moreover, abundant government jobs are available for students like in PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings), DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organization) etc.

One thing to be kept in mind is that careers in science have an awe-inspiring rate of success but require a high amount of dedication, long sitting hours for studies and somewhat high fees which can be managed via various available scholarships.

  • Commerce: – It’s the stream which is related to trade, market, economy, exchange of goods and services etc. Mostly, students who want to run businesses in the future or those who are having keen interest in mathematics of accounts, finance etc. choose commerce. Major subjects that are covered in this amazing stream are:
  1. Commerce
  2. Business Studies
  3. Accountancy
  4. Mathematics

The available career options in this stream are:

  1. Company Secretaries
  2. Financial Planner
  3. Bank Po
  4. Financial Accountant
  5. Chartered Accountant (This is taken by most of the students as their career choice and it requires very hard work along with dedication and concentration for the subject)
  • Humanities: – Popularly known as Arts and conventionally the least preferred choice among students but this does not mean career opportunities are not good or not up to the mark. Ironically, many science and commerce students after graduation switch to this stream just because of the available career options. Subjects covered in this stream are:
  1. Economics
  2. Geography
  3. Political Science
  4. History
  5. Sanskrit
  6. Home Science
  7. Hindi etc.

Enthralling careers available in this stream are:

  1. Journalism
  2. Teaching
  3. Lawyer
  4. Mass Communication
  5. Hotel Management
  6. Above all, this stream offers Nation’s biggest government-oriented jobs. The example is civil services through UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). Highly dignified government jobs like IAS (Indian Administrative Services); IPS (Indian Police services) etc. gets easier to crack for someone with a humanities background. However, UPSC is a very competitive exam and is preferred by students from science and commerce backgrounds as well.

Which Stream is the best?

Every stream has its own uniqueness and importance which can’t be neglected or compared. A student must go through all the available career options in each stream along with his/her interest and should not take any stream under the influence or impression of anyone. Parents must also keep in mind that they should not force their interest over the child to pursue any stream.

Science is important for building future engineers and doctors. Doctors are very important to maintain the health line of the country (can be seen at present pandemic time) whereas engineers play a vital role in development of infrastructure, automobile industry, electronics and information technology.

Commerce has its own relevance when it comes to the finance sector. A Chartered Accountant plays an important role in tax planning, capital budgeting, budget forecasting, financing etc. Moreover, in the current scenario, after implementation of GST (Goods and Service tax) the role of C. A’s has become very important. Similarly, for the process of budget making (nationally for the country) economists are very important and they are also a part of this commerce stream.

Humanities Best stream for government jobs. Let’s consider civil services (both national and state). Although students from other 2 streams also aspire for this career option, still aspirants belonging to Humanities stream get an additional advantage as compared to others because maximum syllabus remains same i.e. one which is for civil services exam and which they have studied after class 10th
