Scored low in Boards? Here is what you can do!

We make mistakes frequently, encountering roadblocks, disappointments, and even outright failures at various stages. Even our most arduous efforts do not always yield the desired results.

However, it is important to remember that life does not stop despite all of its twists and turns. Even the most catastrophic failures are potential turning points.

The exams are finished. You are aware of how you performed in them. The time between exams should be spent relaxing, with family, and without stress. Your professors are most likely finished reviewing your papers. You can only cross-check your answers to get an idea of your performance. Make a list of the mistakes you made. Do not get started on them just yet. Let the results be known.

However, once the results are released, many things happen all at once. In addition, you must be ready for all of them.

“The road built in hope is more pleasant to the traveller than the road built in despair, even though they both lead to the same destination,” Marion Zimmer Bradley famously said.

“OK, I understand all of that, but I received less than 50% on my Class 12 Board Exams; tell me what career options I have now.”

Even if you scored lower on the exam, there are numerous career options and courses available after 12th grade.

Continue reading to find out what you need to do if your Board exam mark sheet is not your best friend right now.

Prepare for Entrance exams:

You can take various entrance exams:

  • JEE: Stands for Joint Entrance Examination for engineering degree programmes.
  • NEET: Stands for National Eligibility and Entrance Test for Medical Degree Programs.
  • COMEDK stands for the Karnataka Consortium of Medical, Engineering, and Dental Colleges.

Similarly, there are state-specific entrance exams that help students get into professional degree programmes and undergraduate programmes. Assess your weaknesses based on your Board results and concentrate more on those areas to be well prepared for entrance examinations. Begin taking All India level mock exams administered by teaching centers. Examine previous years’ questions and revision capsules on platforms such as the SpeEdLabs App.

Broaden your College Search

While many colleges and universities consider Board exam scores for admission, many do not. Examine lists of colleges and universities that match your career interests. While there are prestigious government institutions such as IITs and IIMs, there are also several reputable private institutions assisting thousands of students in pursuing higher education. Create a list of colleges based on your test results and begin applying for professional courses.

Here are some ways to stay up to date on the most recent colleges and universities.

  • Attend local education expos and exhibits.
  • Speak with students from currently operational colleges.
  • Examine colleges’ previous placement records.
  • Examine universities for accuracy (year of establishment, accreditation, etc.)

Research and Investigate Skill-Based Career Opportunities

You can pursue your passion regardless of your 12th Board exam score by pursuing a niche-oriented career option. You can sort out your priorities and pursue them with skill-based careers such as fashion design, aviation, leather research, and many others. Skill-based careers offer a diverse range of career options because they encourage people to specialise in their unique niche. Several universities with reputable accreditations offer certification courses and assist students in pursuing a practical career. Hotel management, aviation, home sciences, and design technology courses do not rely heavily on 12th Board exam results. Many accredited universities also provide traditional professional courses in engineering and medicine. This means you can still pursue a professional degree from a respectable institution.

Continue to strive for excellence in whatever field you choose. There is no need to panic once you realise there are numerous courses available to you. Professional programmes may require you to pass an additional entrance exam. Perform well in the entrance exams and build on your strengths. Examine your academic strengths and weaknesses and seek advice from a career counsellor. Make sure you study wisely in the run-up to the entrance exams.
