ICSE CLASS 8: AN OVERVIEW

The Indian Certificate Examination Council, established in 1958, offers the ICSE curriculum (Indian Council of Secondary Education). The ICSE syllabus focuses on applying principles learned, whereas the CBSE syllabus focuses on learning and retaining theoretical material. While most chapters are identical to those taught in CBSE, the ICSE syllabus provides the most depth and immersion in each. The ICSE class 8 program is good to help students prepare for a comprehensive program and mandatory topics in the upper grades.

The system’s primary components are the utilization of data and the development of analytical abilities. Class eighth serves as a year of preparation for students in Classes ninth and tenth who have enrolled themselves in the ICSE program. Students take English as a first language, French or Hindi as a second language, and courses such as Mathematics, History, Civics and Geography, Science (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology), Natural Sciences, and Computer Studies cover core subjects.

Chapter-1 Transport of Food and Minerals in Plants

Here in this chapter, topics like definitions of diffusion, osmosis, semipermeable membrane, root pressure, active transport, transpiration and factors affecting it, the structure of Xylem, Phloem are discussed here in detail with examples.

Chapter-2 Reproduction in Plant and Animals

This chapter is divided into two parts, they are:

  • Plants:
    This subtopic begins with sexual reproduction in plants which is explained by reviewing the various parts of a flower, the concept of pollination, its types, and various modes of transmission of pollination, characteristics, fertilization process are a few important topics covered in this subchapter.
  • Animals:
    The topics like sexual reproduction in humans and the organs of males and females responsible for the reproductive system are discussed in detail with a thorough explanation.

Chapter-3 Ecosystems

Starting with the definition of ecosystems, biotic and abiotic, their factors responsible for interaction between them, biotic components like producers, consumers, decomposers, terms like the food chain, food web, symbiosis, parasitism, predation, and everything about forest ecosystem are explained in detail with proper examples.

Chapter-4 Human Body – Endocrine, Circulatory and Nervous System

This chapter is divided into four parts, they are:

  • Endocrine System
    Here the topics like hormones their definition, locations, types of hormone glands, functionalities, and importance are explained in detail, along with the general types of glands called the exocrine and endocrine glands, their secretion and their presence in the body are discussed clearly with diagrams and pictorial representation for better understanding.
  • Adolescence and accompanying changes
    The topics like various physical and chemical changes during adolescence, their pre and post effects, the importance of personal hygiene, and stress management, and the methods and importance of implementing it in our daily life for better results are explained in this subchapter.
  • Circulatory System
    The topics like the structure of heart with a detailed diagram, meaning and functionalities of the terms like aorta, pulmonary trunk, coronary artery, vein, vena cava, etc, and also the various blood groups and meaning of universal donor and recipient blood groups are also explained here in detail.
  • Nervous System
    The very important and most frequently asked question in the examination is the Central nervous system with the help of a detailed diagram explaining all parts involved in the process. Apart from that terms like reflex action, stimulus, response, impulse, receptor, effector, are discussed with their respective definitions, characteristics followed by small diagrams and pictorial representations for better understanding.
