ICSE Maths Class 8
ICSE CLASS 8: AN OVERVIEW
The Indian Certificate Examination Council, established in 1958, offers the ICSE curriculum (Indian Council of Secondary Education). The ICSE syllabus focuses on applying principles learned, whereas the CBSE syllabus focuses on learning and retaining theoretical material. While most chapters are identical to those taught in CBSE, the ICSE syllabus provides the most depth and immersion in each. The ICSE class 8 program is good to help students prepare for a comprehensive program and mandatory topics in the upper grades.
The system’s primary components are the utilization of data and the development of analytical abilities. Class eighth serves as a year of preparation for students in Classes ninth and tenth who have enrolled themselves in the ICSE program. Students take English as a first language, French or Hindi as a second language, and courses such as Mathematics, History, Civics and Geography, Science (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology), Natural Sciences, and Computer Studies cover core subjects.
Chapter-1 Number System
This chapter is divided into three parts, they are:
- Rational Numbers
Starting with rational numbers, properties and real-life-based problems, finding whether rational numbers are present between two rational numbers are explained in detail with solved examples and exercises for practice purposes. - Exponents Powers
Topics like laws of exponents, square and square roots, and cube and cube roots using the division method are explained in detail followed by solved examples and exercises for better understanding. - Sets
Beginning with the definition of a set and its properties and characteristics are discussed, topics like union and intersection of sets, complement of sets, disjoint sets, with examples and exercises for deeper understanding.
Chapter-2 Ratio and Proportion
Beginning with a general introduction of ratio and proportions along with topics like compound interest, taxes debited and credited, direct and inverse variations, problems on time and work, and followed with exercises for better understanding and practice purposes.
Chapter-3 Algebra
Starting with a brief introduction, algebraic expressions, multiplication and division operations, factorization, inequalities, and solutions of inequalities in one variable on algebraic expressions, linear equations-based problems are a few of the important topics covered in this chapter.
Chapter-4 Geometry
- Understanding shapes:
A deep and thorough explanation of various quadrilaterals like parallelogram, square, rectangles, etc with their properties, principles, are discussed here along with exercises for better understanding purposes.
Chapter-5 Mensuration
Area and volumes of the cylinder, cube, cuboid, the sphere is explained here with measurement of units of volume, and areas are discussed with examples and exercises for better understanding and practice purposes. Also, problems based on capacity are very important concepts in this chapter.
Chapter-6 Data Handling
Collection, analyzing, and interpreting the given data and organizing in form of simple pie charts, bar graphs, tables followed with problems and exercises for understanding the concepts thoroughly and deeply and also used for practice purposes.
