ICSE Chemistry Class 9
ICSE CLASS 9: AN OVERVIEW
ICSE Class 9 is one of the most vital grades amongst all the other grades. Students will have to focus on each subject because this grade lays the foundation for higher classes. Those who want to appear for competitive examinations must start preparing from class 9. When it comes to reputation, ICSE ICSE tops the list of boards. The CISCE always believes in giving the best quality of education to the students.
SpeEdLabs has designed the relevant study materials and solutions for ICSE Class 9 strategically so that it becomes easier for the students to grasp the knowledge fast and convey it efficiently. SpeEdLabs strictly follows the curriculum provided by CISCE to offer the perfect study materials for students to excel in their academics efficiently.
Below we have provided all the information regarding ICSE Class 9 exams for the academic years 2021-2022.
Chapter-1 The Language of Chemistry
This chapter is one of the easiest and most important chapters in the syllabus, the topics covered here are very basic, general, and simple ones from an exam point of view. Starting with a brief introduction of chemistry, a symbol of an element, definitions of valency, atomic and molecular masses, their importance, calculation process, balancing of a simple chemical equation with two or three reactants, followed by a set of problems for better understanding.
Chapter-2 Chemical changes and reactions
This is one of the smallest and simple chapters in the syllabus. The topics like definition and importance of chemical reactions, types of chemical reactions like Decomposition, Double Decomposition, Displacement, Direct Combination, their respective definitions, and problems are well discussed here. Also, terms like exothermic and endothermic reactions, energy variations with respect to chemical changes are explained in detail with examples.
Chapter-3 Water
This chapter exclusively deals with water and its various properties. The topics like water are the universal solvent, effects of water under temperature on solubility basis, terms like hydrated and anhydrous substances, their definitions are explained with taking respective examples, terms like Efflorescence, Deliquescence, Hygroscopy are also discussed with examples, and of course, the drying and dehydrating agents are discussed with their meanings and single detailed example for each, etc are few topics covered in this chapter.
Chapter-4 Atomic Structure and Chemical bonding
This is another important chapter, where topics like the structure of an atom, terms like atomic and mass numbers are explained in detail, the various components of an atom, i.e., protons, electron,s, and nucleus, etc are discussed with the help of diagrams for better understanding. Also, terms like a covalent bond, electrovalent bond, their definitions, structures and various components involved in the formation, orbit structures, etc are a few topics explained in detail with diagrams and pictorial representation.
Chapter-5 The Periodic Table
This chapter covers topics like Dobereiner’s Triads, Newland’s law of Octaves, Mendeleev’s contributions, the general idea of atomic number and its use and importance of modern periodic table, and how this table is essential and acts as a foundation to the future chemical reactions, etc are few topics explained here with examples, if need be, for better understanding.
Chapter-6 Study of the First Element – Hydrogen
This chapter talks only about the major and basic element called hydrogen, starting from its symbol, its structure, functionalities, its respective reactions with water, diluted acids, alkalis, also, preparation and collection of hydrogen in standard lab method, the industrial process of manufacture of hydrogen by bosch method, oxidation and reduction reactions, etc are clearly explained with the help of experiments and simple equation problems for better understanding and practice purposes.
Chapter-7 Study of Gas Laws
The variation in gases under temperature, pressure, and terms like molecular motion, Boyle’s Law, Charles’ Law, absolute zero, is well explained here. Also, the relationship between the Kelvin scale and the Celsius scale, their definition,n, and conversion of one unit to another is discussed here, along with the standard conversion of units of pressure. These all topics are covered and are well supported with problems and experiments for better understanding.
Chapter-8 Atmospheric Pollution
This chapter covers topics like acid rains, air pollution definition, its effects and various diseases caused due to it, global warming, greenhouse effect, ozone followed by steps to prevent the destruction of the layer, chemicals responsible for the destruction, and preventive measures, etc are few topics covered in this chapter.
