Class 10 and 12 Exam Updates: Supreme Court Refuses to Cancel Offline Board Exams

Board Exams 2022 Live Update: On Wednesday, February 23, the Supreme Court of India refused to accept a plea to cancel the offline exams of Class 10 and Class 12 conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Council for the Indian School Certificate Exams (CISCE), the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and other state boards. In the plea, the CBSE and other educational boards have requested that they devise ways of assessing students other than holding board examinations in offline mode for classes 10 and 12. The appeal was heard today by the bench of Justices A.M. Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari, and C.T. Ravikumar.

Today, the Supreme Court denied the petition seeking to cancel offline board exams for class 10 and class 12. The Court said this will cause further confusion in the system. Such petitions mislead the students. Such petitions cannot become the norm, the Supreme Court said.

Justice Khanwilkar has also referred to the petition as ‘publicity’ and has warned the petitioners as well. He said, “There are news items everywhere. What kinds of petitions are filed & what kind of publicity is given out? This has to stop. Don’t bring it up again, or there will be exemplary costs. Whoever has filed, we are supporting them. “According to the bench, the authorities are more knowledgeable about the situation on the ground and can make better decisions, thus they should not interfere.

The Supreme Court stated that the authorities are currently working on determining dates and other arrangements. The court noted that if there are any problems, aggrieved parties can formally approach authorities.

Many students demanded the cancellation of the 2022 Board exam, as they were losing knowledge from online classes. Before the Supreme Court plea, students were demanding a cancellation or postponement of the board exams on social media as well. Several students posted Tweets and shared their concerns with authorities.

Several National and State Boards have released the dates for the 2022 Board exams. CBSE has announced that Term 2 exams will begin from April 26. The CISCE has similarly announced that Board Exams will begin on April 26. State boards are also preparing to begin exams in March and April.
