This year students got enough time to prepare for this exam because of the ongoing pandemic. The exam is conducted four times a year and accordingly, students can prepare for the same.

JEE score and how to improve it

JEE score is important to decide the rank of the aspirant and allocation of college depends on this rank. The main exam is the deciding criteria for all the NITs throughout the country whereas admission into IITs is decided based on Advance Score. But many students are unable to get a satisfactory score in this examination. The reasons behind this can be numerous and, in this blog, we will discuss how a student can improve his JEE score.

Following Strategies can be of great help to improve your JEE score:

  • OMR sheets: As this exam is objective-based, one should practice filling out OMR sheets well in advance to avoid any sort of mistake in the examination hall because there is no chance for a spare sheet and this will reduce your score for sure.

  • Mock tests: Solve as many mock exams as you can. This will not only improve your accuracy but also help you in time bounded preparation. Mock papers can be of two types:

  1. Subject-based: Separate papers for Physics, chemistry, and mathematics. These should be solved after completing each subject individually.

  1. Complete Syllabus: Such papers include all the three subjects combined and should be solved once you finish your entire syllabus and revision.

  • Revision: Revise as much as you can. Revision helps you to remember facts, diagrams, and methodologies that you’ve covered while studying for the first time. You can Revise with the help of self-made notes, mind maps, etc. The revision also boosts confidence and reduces anxiety, if done correctly.

  • Syllabus: Go through the syllabus in detail and analyse every topic present there. Complete the entire syllabus with a proper strategy and timetable to get sufficient time for revision and mock papers. Focus on weak areas more and mark them so that you can revise them again and again.

  • Previous year question papers: To perform well, you need to solve at least 8-10 previous year’s question papers. After solving them, you will find a repetition of many questions and this will help you build concepts in detail.

  • Practice numerical: Numericals contribute a large number of questions in this exam. Be it physics, chemistry, or mathematics numerical are relevant in all three subjects. One should practice every day to get in-depth knowledge of the type of questions that can be asked. In place of mugging them up or rote memorization, you should write and practice them. Understanding theory is very crucial to solving numerical problems.

  • Try to focus on silly mistakes: Students make such mistakes because of anxiety and tension while solving JEE papers. These small mistakes can cost you a score loss. Hence, mistakes for calculation errors should be taken care of for a good score. Peer pressure or over-excitement can also lead to such mistakes. So, control your excitement and maintain focus on the exam.

  • Time management: It is the most crucial factor that will decide your JEE score. It can lift as well as deteriorate your score. One must take care of how much time needs to be devoted to each subject. Moreover, the student must know which subject to begin on.

  • Refer standard books and proper mentorship: Standard books like DC Pandey and HC Verma for physics, Sl Loney for mathematics, etc. should be read and solved for a diversified approach. Not only books, but a certified mentor is also important to guide you throughout your JEE Journey. For example, Mentors available on speedlabs.in who are subject experts and they can make your preparation stress-free and easy.

Common mistakes to avoid while preparing for JEE

Several mistakes can put a large difference on your JEE score and hence, should be avoided by all means. They are:

  • Not studying NCERT’s: You must read NCERT’s as they help develop a strong foundation.
  • Don’t overthink about the results as this will cause excessive mental pressure and you won’t study well.
  • Change your strategy and study pattern only when you feel like your current plan is not of any help while solving mocks.
  • Not making your notes and not insufficient numerical practice.

Key Takeaways

JEE preparation throughout requires patience and constant practice. Stick to your strategy and avoid indulgence in those activities which waste time. Also, refer to trends of previous year papers so that you do not miss any important topic. Best of luck with your preparation and exam.
