Choose the IIT and branch of your choice

The journey doesn’t end once you clear the IIT JEE exam, it begins, and the starting stage is the choice of IIT and selection of engineering branch!

Have you ever heard someone making statements such as “I used to make different planes out of paper, I’ll become a remarkable aerospace engineer someday”? Well, if yes, then that is the most undeveloped thought or decision one could ever make.

Many JEE aspirants are unaware of the exact particulars and attributes of the field/branch they are choosing and state that branch as their interest which makes the whole course tedious for them.

Here, in this article, we will discuss the parameters and factors that play the role in deciding “Which IIT and Branch to choose after clearing JEE advance exam.”

The IITs

When we talk about IITs, they are one of the best institutions in the world. Your preferred IIT branch selection is a result of a blend of various factors such as infrastructure, the rank of the IIT branch, your rank, area of interest, alumnae record, fee structure, placement record etc.

CS leads the above categories in terms of ranking and job opportunities.

After Engineering: Job Opportunities and Other Insights for 2021!

Parameters while choosing a particular branch/college:

  1.   Based on cut-off: The closing rank within which students get admission in the NITs will form the JEE Main cut-off for the institutes. JEE Main cut-off for top NITs will be released by the JoSAA authorities in online mode. Opening rank means the maximum score and closing rank means the minimum score that got admitted in a particular branch.

Students often look just at the closing rank of a branch. They tend to overlook the opening ranks of a branch due to which they miss out on the rank bracket information of a specific college/branch.

  1. Based on Interest: The next step is to start eliminating the branches based on your interest, Job openings, Curriculum of XYZ College. You can also connect with the college alumni on various social platforms such as LinkedIn. They can give you an idea of the branch infrastructure, and other core facilities available at the branch.

Research as much as you can about the course curriculum of your branch and its contents in detail. Don’t just go by others’ advice and guidance. Try to dig out every detail about the course. This will help you analyze your interest factor. If you’re unable to determine your interest, try to go back to your past likings and interests. This may give you some ideas. You can also follow the trend and see if that works for you.

  1.     CS or Non-CS: One must clarify if the branch is a CS (Computer Science) branch or a non-CS, before applying to any college. Do not take admission thinking that the future is CS. Some students opted for non-CS and still hold recognized positions at esteemed companies.
  2. Placement & Job opportunities: This is another important benchmark that plays an important part in the decision-making process. CS is the branch that offers the highest number of placements and job opportunities.

Key Takeaways

Based on the above factors, students are recommended to research as much as they can because researching is better than regretting it. Listen to people but obey your conscience. The final decision must be yours.

All the very best for your future endeavors!
